Today’s Thought: Why the Cross?

BUT FAR BE IT FROM ME TO BOAST EXCEPT IN THE CROSS OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST.

GALATIANS 6:14

If we aren’t careful, we can lose sight of what sets Christianity apart from every other religion. It’s the cross of Christ—it’s the ugly, bloody cross where all of our present, past, and future sins are forgiven forever. Why the cross?

Why the cross?
Because there’s no other sacrifice worthy to remove the stench and stain of our sins.
“For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, ‘Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. (Hebrews 10:4-6)

Why the cross?
Because without the shedding of blood, we are still condemned to eternal separation from God.
“Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.” (Hebrews 9:22)

Why the cross?
Because the love of God is intense, personal, and deep for each individual born on earth.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:16-17)

Why the cross? Because we find our present life and future hope with fullness of joy and peace.
“For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” (Colossians 1:20)

Why the cross? Because our eternal debt is paid and we are free from the restraints of the flesh, the world’s temptations, and Satan’s deceptions.
“By canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. (Colossians 2:14)

PRAYER

Dear Lord, thank You for the cross in which I find forgiveness from my sins, my future hope in heaven, and freedom in Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In His Service,
