IT IS GOOD TO BE NEAR GOD; PSALM 73:28
Young children cling to their parents when they are alarmed, afraid, or hungry. They seek their parents’ comfort as well as provision for their needs. A good father and mother will do whatever it takes to restore their child’s faith and help them to move forward. God is the ultimate and perfect Father for His children. He will do whatever it takes to draw us near to Him when we are feeling off-balance by life’s many trials.
Some of us have learned to immediately turn to God when our hearts are broken or plans are shattered. Yet many of God’s children get distracted by the busyness of life and forget that they need to be near their heavenly Father. Sometimes, just like little children, we wander away from our Father and find ourselves in unfamiliar places without hope.
God’s word teaches us to draw near to Him and He will draw near to us (James 4:8). Do we have to wait for trials and tribulations to draw near to God? Of course not. If we draw near to God as a part of our daily walk, we will find more balance within ourselves when troubles come. If we want to draw near to God, we make the time to pray and commune with Him daily. We steadily read and meditate on His word. We will immediately recognize that our God is in control, and He will give us stability through the difficult days.
Nearness to God isn’t some kind of spiritual weirdness. Rather, it’s a calm and comforting presence of God that envelops us early in the morning and throughout our day. We can deal more readily with difficult situations and people because of our close proximity with the Creator.
Dear Lord, I want to be closer to You than I’ve ever been before. Give me insight to what I need to do to draw near to You, and I pray that You will draw near to me. Amen.
In His Service,
