Lack Wisdom- Pastor Barry A Farnsworth, Victory Baptist Church Kingfisher , OK

Thursday July 13, 2017

Wisdom is supposedly valued in our society, but you wouldn’t know it by the way we act. James tells us that if we lack wisdom, there is a solution. I suppose the first thing that is necessary, then is that we admit that we need wisdom. Scripture tells us that there will be trials, temptation, disappointments, and difficulties in life. In order to handle these things, we need wisdom.

The natural heart rebels a the simplicity of God. We always try to make things more difficult than they are. James suggests that simply ask the Author of Wisdom when we have need of some. When we come to God, we come as sinners- not as wise men. It takes some wisdom to understand that Christ suffered and died for our sins, but even that wisdom comes from the Author and Finisher of our Faith.

What should be our Motivation in coming to God for Wisdom? Why shouldn’t we come to our vast intelligence, or our superior intellect, or maybe our library full of books written by people of wisdom? Perhaps for one simple reason—God says that if we lack wisdom, we should ask Him because He will give us wisdom. There is no other place I know of that will guarantee such a gift. After all, we ask Him for grace, for salvation, for guidance. Would He refuse us wisdom, when He has promised to give it?

Are you depressed, confused, or overcome with the difficulties of life? Your are not alone. You can try to figure it out yourself, or you can ask for wisdom from the Giver of life. James would heartily recommend it.
